Even a bit of rain to start out the week couldn’t dampen the spirits of thousands of IT professionals who descended upon the San Jose area earlier this month for SHARE San Jose.
Truth be told, no one came for the weather — although we did end up getting very mild temperatures. Instead, they came for a week of immersive learning, networking and unique learning opportunities that SHARE events are known for delivering.
With more than 500 sessions on the agenda, one could easily begin to feel a bit overwhelmed. But the best approach for overcoming that was to have a well thought-out plan. And the SHARE team did their part by providing us with interactive “roadmaps” based on our areas of interest.
My background is in system programming in z/OS and z/VM, which means I am always on the lookout for new and updated material. And much to my satisfaction, all of the sessions had great material that I am able to apply into my day-to-day activities. I was even fortunate to attend the MVS Program Lunch and the Security Project Dinner, where I was able to converse with many great people.
Out on the trade show floor, you could feel the buzz; excitement for all the great things that are happening in this space. It was a good crowd and everyone seemed upbeat and interested in all that was happening. I credit a fantastic layout, with both the SHARE and IBM booths located in the back, to allow for an efficient flow of foot traffic.
And it wasn’t just your typical group of SHARE exhibitors. For example, it was great to interact with representatives from IBM Lab. Tapping into their expertise helped me find answers to those pressing questions.
So what’s next? I am excited about our next SHARE event, August 6-11 in Providence, RI. Along with having a new location to explore, we will also feature two new SHARE Academies: Security and Blockchain. This will mark the fourth SHARE event over the past two years in which we have hosted SHARE Academy. This day-long seminar is designed to provide a deeper dive into some of the most important topics facing enterprise IT professionals today, led by very knowledgeable instructors.
Look out for more details in the coming months on speakers, sessions and activities that will make your experience at SHARE Providence a great one!
I hope to see you there!
